James Apelbi of Boxted, Essex

All the members of this extensive line of Applebys are descended from John Appleby (~1558 - 1629) and Margaret Sandye (both born in Boxted), who married in 1599 in Ardleigh. John is believed to be a son of James Apelbi.

Families from this line of Applebys remained in and around Boxted (a village about five miles north of Colchester) for around eight generations before some family groups began to disperse to the nearby villages of Dedham, Great Horkesley, Wivenhoe and Langham as well into Colchester itself in the mid to late 1800s. We know that a few families travelled further afield to London and Sussex, and one family emigrated to Arizona in the USA in arond 1887.

It seems likely that there remain a number of descendants of this line of Applebys, possibly many of them are still living in Essex today. If you believe that you belong to James Apelbi's line, do please contact me to share your information.
