John and Tamar Appleby of Staffordshire

John Appleby married Tamar Willits in Rowley Regis in Staffordshire in 1768, but at present we are not certain whether John was born in Staffordshire or if he was a member of the family of Applebys that lived in Newport in Shropshire.

Certainly although John and Tamar's first five known children were born in Halesowan in Worcestershire, three further children were born in Newport Shropshire.

Their eldest child, Levi Appleby born in 1769 in Halesowen, was a nail maker - he married Ann Linions in 1792 in Newport, and we know of ten

children - the first eight were christened in Newport but after a seven year gap (when there could have been a few more children?) the last two were christened at the Wesleyan Chapel in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire. All four of their sons were also nailors.

We have traced a number of descendants of this line, including one branch that emigrated to the USA in the 1850s and settled in Nebraska.

It is likely that there are several living Applebys descended from Levi Appleby - please get in touch if you can provide more information.
