Miles Applebee of Dedham

Miles Applebee was born in Dedham, Essex, in about 1790. He married Elizabeth and there first child was born in Chipping Hill, a small village close to Witham, but their next five known children were all born in either Fryerning or nearby Ingatestone, villages to the south west of Chelmsford.

Miles was a bricklayer by trade, as were all four of his sons. Starting with son Edward, one by one almost the entire family migrated across the Thames Estuary and settled in Kent ; initially in Gillingham, but some members lived in Chatham, New Brompton and Plumstead.

From census information, I believe that Miles may have had a brother John Applebee, who was born in Witham in about 1803 (Miles and Elizabeth's daughter Elizabeth was married to Webb Overhead but she was living with her father in one census and her uncle John Applebee in another).
