This line begins with Robert Appleby, born about 1819 in Sunderland, County Durham. Robert was the illegitimate son of Jane Appleby, though we have no further information about her. Robert was a coalminer and worked in the mines of Houghton-le-Spring, Sherburn, Willington, Cornsay and possibly others, so the line is aptly titled 'of County Durham'. All of his descendants seem to have stayed in County Durham and one family moved to Newcastle Upon Tyne.
DNA
Unfortunately, as this line is descended from an illegitimate son of a female Appleby, it is not open to DNA testing. However, if you have any further information about this line, please get in touch via this link.
