To view this site properly and access the spreadsheets and family tree charts, you will need Adobe Reader  installed on your computer - use the above link to download the latest FREE version of this application. If viewing on a mobile device, the standard view works best - though some of the images may be rotated, sorry I have not been able to overcome this problem.

The current banner shows Alnwick Castle, in Northumberland - a county in the far north east of England, bordering Scotland.  This region is home to a number of Appleby lines - and our DNA project has confirmed genetic connections between several of these, which also match lines in Canada, USA and Ireland.

PLEASE NOTE: if you are viewing this site on an Apple device running IOS 13, you may experience problems with page layout, over-lapping text, etc.  Hopefully, Apple will resolve these issues very soon,

(Meanwhile, I suggest you switch to a PC!)

BMD and Census records for London

and the South East

Notes on viewing the spreadsheets

My master copies of the spreadsheets are held in Excel, and I continually update the data - uploading latest versions to this site on a regular basis.  I welcome all corrections and additions to the data presented - YOU are the expert on your family, so please help me to ensure that all the information is correct.

For presentation purposes, the spreadsheets and family tree charts on this website are in .pdf format so you will need to open them with Adobe Reader (you can download the latest FREE version of Adobe Reader using the link on the left).  Use the Adobe browser to enlarge the image to a legible size, then scroll across and down to read the data.  Please note that there is more detail available for the post 1837 entries - particularly on the Marriages spreadsheet.

Initially, this section only contained records for the London/Middlesex area - I am gradually adding records for more counties in the South East of England (Berkshire, Kent, Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire) as I find them.  I should be most grateful to receive any corrections or additional details you hold to expand this list (please include source information!)

Census records for London and the South East

The linked files show Appleby families from the reconstructed family trees as they appear in the London/SE censuses.  I have not found all the individuals in all census years, so if you can add further information, please contact me.  And of course, if I have made any errors, I would be most grateful if you could let me have corrections.

As I reconstruct further trees, more families will be added to the linked spreadsheets.

Gradually, I am colour coding the BMD and census spreadsheets to help you to identify entries for particular London Appleby/SE family trees - this is a slow process, but I will carry on when I have time.  If YOU would be interested in helping to do this for your Appleby family, just let me know ... I need all the help I can get!

The colours used for the first of the London families are shown below:
