the Appleby one-name study and DNA project

The current banner shows Alnwick Castle, in Northumberland - a county in the far north east of England, bordering Scotland.  This region is home to a number of Appleby lines - and our DNA project has confirmed genetic connections between several of these, which also match lines in Canada, USA and Ireland.

Surnames covered in our DNA project:

APPLEBY, APPLEBEE,

APPELBY, APPELBE

plus any other variants

With your help, I hope to add further family trees and resource data for this part of England to the website - please use the Contact Form to let me know if you would be prepared to contribute details of your own family trees and Birth, Marriage and Death data for inclusion on the site.

NB To prevent any possibility of publishing details of living individuals, family trees will not show current generations and there will be appropriate cut off points for all other data.

Family trees

UPDATED!

When I began to collect census data and parish records for the Appleby/bees families of Somerset, it became apparent that there were a number of distinct lines, including several that originated from Kingsdon.  One of the very first trees that we put on this website was that of William Appleby of Kingsdon, many of whose descendants emigrated to Tasmania.  This tree has now been renamed Emanuel Appleby and Love Ludwell, and I have also added a second tree from Kingsdon - it is likely that further research (or DNA testing?) will reveal that these two trees are related

Applebys of Kingsdon Somerset

Descendants of Emanuel Appleby and Love Ludwell, who married in 1785 in Kingsdon, Somerset; several of his eldest son William's children emigrated to Tasmania in the mid-1800s.  Descendants of William's brother John have just been added to this tree

Descendants of Luke Appleby and Ann Norris who married in Kingsdon, Somerset in 1794

Applebys of Babcary, Somerset - Descendants of Amos Appleby (born about 1762) and Margaret

Applebys of Mudford, Somerset - Descendants of Sansom Appleby (~1752-1804) and Ann Sergeant.

More Somerset Appleby lines - coming soon

Descendants of Sansom Appleby (~1752-1804) and Ann Sergeant.
