To view this site properly and access the spreadsheets and family tree charts, you will need Adobe Reader  installed on your computer - use the above link to download the latest FREE version of this application. If viewing on a mobile device, the standard view works best - though some of the images may be rotated, sorry I have not been able to overcome this problem.

The current banner shows Alnwick Castle, in Northumberland - a county in the far north east of England, bordering Scotland.  This region is home to a number of Appleby lines - and our DNA project has confirmed genetic connections between several of these, which also match lines in Canada, USA and Ireland.

PLEASE NOTE: if you are viewing this site on an Apple device running IOS 13, you may experience problems with page layout, over-lapping text, etc.  Hopefully, Apple will resolve these issues very soon,

(Meanwhile, I suggest you switch to a PC!)

Resources for Scotland

The entries on these spreadsheets were transcribed from the Scotlands People website.  We currently only have one Scottish Appleby tree on our website - the Applebys of Kirkcaldy - and in fact, this line is known to have originated in Ireland, but the first members of the family seem to have arrived in Scotland shortly before the 1851 census.

However, the early parish records reveal that there were Applebys living in Scotland as early as the 1660s.

If your ancestors were Appleby's from Scotland, please get in touch and tell us more about them!

Appleby Births in Scotland - this spreadsheet contains records from the Index to Births in Scotland as well as baptism records extracted from Church of Scotland and Roman Catholic parish records - Because of the different information contained in the records, you will need to scroll to the end of the list to view the parish records.

Appleby Marriages in Scotland - a compilation of GROS and parish records, sorted in order of year

Appleby Deaths in Scotland - like the Birth records, the parish records are to be found at the end of the list.

These files are in pdf format and will open with Adobe Reader.  You will need to enlarge the image with your Adobe browser tools and then scroll across and down.

The information on the following spreadsheets is taken from either the Scotland's People website or from Ancestry - In the majority of cases, I have only examined the actual images for the one Scottish Appleby line that we have on the website.  Further details will be added over time.
