To view this site properly and access the spreadsheets and family tree charts, you will need Adobe Reader  installed on your computer - use the above link to download the latest FREE version of this application. If viewing on a mobile device, the standard view works best - though some of the images may be rotated, sorry I have not been able to overcome this problem.

The current banner shows Alnwick Castle, in Northumberland - a county in the far north east of England, bordering Scotland.  This region is home to a number of Appleby lines - and our DNA project has confirmed genetic connections between several of these, which also match lines in Canada, USA and Ireland.

PLEASE NOTE: if you are viewing this site on an Apple device running IOS 13, you may experience problems with page layout, over-lapping text, etc.  Hopefully, Apple will resolve these issues very soon,

(Meanwhile, I suggest you switch to a PC!)

Past Newsletters

All general news about developments in the Appleby Study from 2013 to 2016 were posted in the rolling New Appleby Orchard Newsletter (link to pdf copy below), which runs to 29 pages of very interesting snippets of Appleby related finds!  But as part of our attempt to bring together all the different websites, future Newsletters are returning to this main website, and will be circulated to all members via Mail Chimp.  In addition updates about progress in our DNA study will be continue to be reported in the Activity Feed on our Group Page at Family Tree DNA.  But in case you want to look back at any past Newsletters, here are the links:

I apologise for the absence of any recent newsletters - ill health combined with a very demanding (but hugely enjoyable) online Genealogy course have prevented me spending much time at all on the Appleby website.

If you are not already on our mailing list, I strongly recommend that you sign up as a Member and then we can let you know whenever there is any new information or updates to our website.
